Flo is a light boiled wool fabric which is blended with viscose to give it a wonderful drape. The fabric is a great option for winter jumpers, lighter weight coats and even skirts (you may prefer to line garments that you will wear next to your skin)
We've had fun experimenting with washing techniques for this fabric. The results have shown us a flexible fabric that will change quite dramatically depending on how you care for it. Here are our results:
- Steam it with a hot iron and you will take out a little shrinkage but retain the drape and feel of the fabric. Approx 3% shrinkage in the length.
- Gentle hand wash in cool water and you will get a slightly softer and plumper fabric. We recommend using Soak Wool Wash. Approx 5% shrinkage in length and width.
- Machine wash on a 40 degree cycle and the fabric will shrink and felt significantly giving a thick (approx 575gsm), highly textured fabric. Great for coats and heavier tops or slipovers. Approx 22% shrinkage in length and 18% in width. (see last image in the Pastel Cornflower colour)

Boiled wool is firstly knitted then essentially boiled by churning in very hot water. This gives the wool a lovely plump textured look while still being relatively light weight for the thickness and warmth. The fabric remains stretchy for flexibility and comfort.
Boiled wool doesn't fray, so it is a great option for quick winter makes or for projects where you want to have a raw edge as a feature.
We imagine this fabric will be great paired with the following sewing patterns: Mile End Sweater, a winter Cuff Top, Sidney Jumper, Jarrah Sweater, Elastic Tie Sweater, Highland Top from Issue 5 of Tauko Magazine, Artemis Coat, or Mimosa Cape.
